A Night with Spirit: Reflections from the Audience
This weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a mediumship demonstration at Unity Spiritualist Church in Wilmington, led by Kim Griffin and Felicia Grant. I’ve known both of them for some time—Felicia’s events have moved me before, and I’ve studied platform demonstrations under Kim. They’re friends, peers, and incredible mediums.
Still, witnessing them work from the audience’s perspective was something else entirely. There’s an undeniable shift in energy when you step into a space filled with spirit. It’s uplifting, healing, and deeply moving.
I attended with my friend Kristin, quietly setting an intention before we arrived: I asked my Uncle Houston to come through.
Now, I don’t need a message to feel connected to my loved ones in spirit—they’re with me all the time. But as someone who delivers messages to others, I wanted to sit in the audience and simply receive. Kim and Felicia had attended my own demonstration in October, where Felicia’s mother-in-law came through. So, if a message did come, I wondered—would it be Kim or Felicia bringing it through? Or would the night unfold differently?
And unfold it did.
The Power of Platform Mediumship
Every demonstration has its own rhythm. That night, Kim and Felicia worked in their distinct styles—Kim with her fast, direct delivery of evidence, Felicia with her warm, conversational approach. Every medium has their own way of working, and it’s fascinating to witness.
One thing became clear early on—the evening had a theme. Spirits were "piggybacking," meaning multiple spirits with similar stories came through at the same time, weaving messages for different audience members into the same link. Kim and Felicia handled it seamlessly, differentiating the energies while honoring their connections.
As the event wound down, Felicia hesitated.
"I just can’t let this last spirit go. There’s a man here who passed from what feels like stomach cancer."
I sat up a little straighter. My Uncle Hooty had died from colon cancer—a subtle distinction in the way spirit communicates. But something in me knew.
"Keep going," I said. "I’m listening. This might be for me."
Felicia continued.
He had refused treatment.
He was thin and had dealt with stomach pain for years.
He was personable but private.
"Yes," I confirmed. "That’s him."
Then she added something unexpected.
"He’s showing me car races. NASCAR. Do you know what this is about?"
I didn’t.
"No, I don’t think so."
When Evidence Doesn’t Land (Right Away)
Mediumship isn’t about perfection. Sometimes information makes sense immediately, and sometimes it takes time to connect the dots. As Felicia kept speaking, she brought up the car race a second time.
Now, as a medium myself, I know this rule: if something comes up twice, it matters. But I still couldn’t place it.
And then, it hit me.
The race wasn’t about my uncle—it was about me and my son. Just days before, we had been deep in conversation about the upcoming Formula 1 race. My son was excited, wanting to go. It had been a big discussion.
This was what’s known as proof of life—evidence that our loved ones in spirit are still with us, aware of what’s happening in our lives right now.
I laughed at the irony—even mediums miss the obvious sometimes. It was such a gift to hear from my uncle, and as soon as I left, I called my mom to tell her.
If You’ve Never Been to a Mediumship Demonstration…
Go.
Whether or not you receive a message, these experiences shift your energy, your perspective, and your heart. There’s something profoundly healing about witnessing the connection between this world and the next.
Because at the end of the day, every reading is a love story. And love stories never end.
