Not Your Mother’s Mystic

Have you read it yet?

Not Your Mother’s Mystic is becoming the book of summer, exceeding all expectations for a self-published book.

Synopsis

Not Your Mother’s Mystic is a raw, fearless memoir about what happens when a spiritual awakening ambushes your ordinary life and demands everything.

Kathryn Brewer had checked all the boxes—career, kids, mortgage—but underneath the polished surface, she was unraveling. Then a vivid visitation dream cracked her world open, launching her into a chaotic, sacred, and utterly uninvited spiritual transformation.

Told with brutal honesty and dark humor, this is not a story of blissful enlightenment. It’s for women in the messy middle—those burned out by doing everything “right” and still wondering, Is this it?

From corporate burnout to evidential medium, Kathryn shares a journey that will resonate with anyone navigating awakening, grief, intuition, or the collapse of an old identity.

Not Your Mother’s Mystic is for the misfits, magic-makers, and recovering overachievers. It’s equal parts sacred and irreverent—a permission slip to believe in yourself, reclaim your voice, and walk into the life that’s been waiting for you all along.

Reader Praise

If you aren’t already, you’re definitely going to want to meet this author!

Knowing Kathryn both professionally and personally, I was very excited to read this book. I started it as soon as it arrived and read it as much as I could outside of my work and life responsibilities. I found that every time I had a little bit of free time, I wanted to get back into the book as it was both entertaining and informative. I was delighted to experience the authenticity that the author embodies. I loved that it was funny and real and relatable. I would think that all different types of people could relate in someway or another. I was also very impressed with the amount of time attention, detail, desire, and motivation that she puts into her craft. As someone who has received a session myself from Kathryn, I can say that this book rings true to her abilities and the way that she fully lives her life in alignment with her purpose. It’s a true honor and delight to witness the evolution and growth that has transpired with this profound gift that has been honed and now being shared with the masses. I highly recommend reading this book!!! I want to say more about how I respect her resourcefulness but I don’t wanna give parts of it away :)

Uniquely insightful and a great ride!

I'm about the same age as the author and have been working on listening to my intuition, so Kathryn's story resonated with me on several levels, but wow - there's something in here for everyone. The early chapters are kind of a downer as she depicts her pre-awakening life, but it gets fascinating quickly - and then completely engrossing. I've read other books by mediums (media?) but never one that tells the intensely personal story of finding connection, developing her abilities, and processing the ups, downs, and lessons of spiritual growth. Anyone who ever wondered what the medium at a reading is thinking should check this out.
She connects the spiritual world to her Christian faith clearly along the way, showing how connections with the spiritual world are very much aligned with what we consider "traditional" Christian teachings.
The book also provides tremendous insight for anyone in the early stages of such a journey. I'm sharing it with all of my intuitive friends, and plenty of other friends too!

Raw, Brave, Hilarious — Exactly what I needed

Not Your Mother's Mystic is one of the most honest, funny, and relatable books I’ve read in a long time. Kathryn Brewer writes with unflinching honesty about heartbreak, healing, and spiritual awakening, and she does it all with a sharp wit and self-awareness that makes you laugh out loud even as you’re wiping away tears.

Her bravery in telling the whole messy truth of her life—the spirals, the doubts, the moments of clarity and connection—is nothing short of inspiring. This isn't some sugar-coated self-help memoir. It’s real, it’s raw, and it’s beautiful. You feel like you're sitting with your smartest, funniest, most no-nonsense friend as she tells you everything she’s learned the hard way.

What really struck me was how deeply relatable this story is. Brewer doesn't pretend to have it all figured out—she just keeps showing up, asking the hard questions, and learning to trust herself and the divine along the way. Her spiritual journey is authentic and grounded in everyday life, from parenting stress to dating disasters to building a chicken coop (yes, really).

Highly recommend for anyone navigating a life transition, wondering if they’ve "messed it all up," or just looking for a reminder that transformation is possible—and sometimes even funny.
